Office Lobby at Sea Containers House

An office lobby designed to connect the ground floor of the building with the road to the front and the Thames riverside to the rear.

Design Research Studio was invited to create a strong interior narrative for an office lobby in the Sea Containers building, neighbouring the Mondrian Hotel. The brief was to create a dramatic and inspiring entrance connecting the lobby space to the river walk on the opposite side.

The lobby consists of four distinct areas: double height arrival space, café space, seating and meeting space, and formal waiting area.

Each is subtly differentiated with the use of juxtaposing materials and furniture: Carrara marble and bleached oak floor boards to one side; exposed concrete and dark recycled stone tiles to the other.
